Spencer Hansen’s solo show Strangers, will be traveling to the Skye Gallery’s home base in Colorado December 14th - January 28th.
Last year, Spencer’s Please Play also exhibited with Skye Gallery, was an Aspen favorite. Thoughtful designs translated into a world that invited the viewer to engage in curiosity, interact, emerge and play. Strangers will feature new sculpture and masks that captivate with the same sense of curiosity and familiarity that help define Spencer Hansen’s art.
Working with wood, leather, metal, ceramic and bone, Spencer distills processes to create pieces that exhibit a seamless complexity through his combination of materials, attention to detail and mixing of genres, all merging to bring each sculpture's significance to light, resulting in a narrative that is relatable, intimate and otherworldly.
Meeting Spencer’s sculptures is like discovering a new species with an heir of familiarity. They have the power to elicit nostalgia and a sense of belonging, with an undeniable essence of something still unknown.
Strangers invites us into our rich inner life of thoughts, to contemplate our perception of foreign encounters, and wonder at their significance in this world.
